Habari as a WordPress + PostgresQL alternative
I am migrating to a new server (free hosting just don’t cut it any more!) and always seem to have had some sort of WordPress blog lying around for reasons unknown. Still, I thought it wouldn’t be too hard to set up WordPress with PostgresQL, my database of choice. Except, of course, it is, because it’s not officially supported.
So I went searching for an alternative, and this Habari bizzo popped up as an excellent blog + PostgresQL option. So I downloaded the 0.5.2 stable release, started the beautiful and intuitive installer, and.. ker-plunk, no worky. After a little while of fiddling around with it, and Googling for answers, I got a lot of people saying “0.5.2 doesn’t work with postgres, but get SVN trunk and it’s fixed.”
SQLite worked fine, but that was really just adding insult to injury :) So I downloaded trunk (r2971), and got a much more explanatory error message. It seems there’s something in there when it sets up the initial environment that postgres doesn’t like. So… I just gave up, installed MySQL, and will switch back once they get PostgesQL working happily again.
In other news, Habari is beautiful, from the admin side at least, and, if you can see this, then it’s evidence that I’ve been able to write a blog post. And isn’t that, really, what it’s all about?
PS: Why did I use so very many links in that post? Just trying out the textile plugin from Trifold Designs (whoops, there I go again!)
